NORTHEAST OHIO
PROFESSIONAL ACM CHAPTER
“ ADVANCING THE COMPUTING PROFESSION IN NORTHEAST OHIO”
“Just as practicing professionals such as doctors, accountants, and nurses are licensed, so should software engineers. The public needs to be able to rely on some sort of credential when choosing a contractor to write software.” The exam should be taken by SE with many years of experiences who develop safety-critical software systems. Will licensing improve the quality of software?
The panel will include Larry Jones, Software Architect from Software Engineering Institute of CMU, Shanthi Subramanyam, CEO and Founder of Empyra.com, Inc., a local IT company, and local professional software engineers.

PANEL DISCUSSION: SHOULD SOFTWARE ENGINEERS BE LICENSED?
We are sponsoring a panel discussion on “Should SE Be Licensed? on March 7th at the Youngstown
Business Incubator. In April 2013, the IEEE-USA Licensure and Registration Committee and the IEEE Computer Society, along with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), and the National Society of Professional Engineers will offer the “Principles and Practices Exam of Software Engineering”. The argument is:
BRINGING THE MOVIE “THE CODEBREAKER” (A FILM ABOUT ALAN TURING) TO YOUNGSTOWN
Of course you know who Alan Turing is, well we have a chance to have a special screening of this “drama-documentary” to a local theater. This is movie-on-demand model. All we will have to do is get 50 people to reserve tickets on the distributor’s website, and VIOLA, they will bring the movie to a designated theater. We are in the works to make this happen. Once setup, we will need to get people to reserve the tickets by a set date. Anyone will be able to reserve a ticket. We will be given promotional materials to pass out and posters to put up on campus and around town. Here is the link to the distributor TURING FILM Check out the trailer!
Learn the skills to being a more productive developer. All workshops will be located at Youngstown State University Kilcawley Center’s President’s Suite from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. These workshops are free and open to the public. Click Here! to register for this workshop.
